The time is coming near when we will find out who wins the Caldecott and Newbery Medals and Honors for the year. The medals will be awarded on January 26th.
Just in case you didn't know...
The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Last year's Caldecott winner was
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick. This was the first "graphic novel" to win or be nominated for the award.
The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Last year's Newbery winner was
Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village by Laura Amy Schlitz.
